3D Design and Crafts Art Lesson

Description: For this project, we focused on making an object that was 3D. To start, in the top left corner of my construction paper, I wrote "I am most thankful for:" and then drew a picture to represent what I am most thankful for, which is my family and my education at Northern State University. I chose to draw my family, as well as an NSU symbol. After we drew what we were most thankful for, we had to cut out our strips of paper to create the 3D feathers. There are seven yellow, six orange, and four red. I also cut the turkey body out of brown construction paper so that I could trace the outline onto my background paper. Tracing the outline helped me figure out where to start gluing the feathers. On two of the red feathers, I wrote three more things that I was thankful for. In order to make these feathers look 3D, I had to loop them and glue the bottom edges together, and then glue them onto the paper. After creating the 3D feathers, I colored in the beak, snood, and the turkey's feet. I also added googly eyes to my turkey. To make the turkey body look more realistic, I added texture to the construction paper with a brown marker. I attempted to make the lines represent more feathers and the wings of the turkey.

Extension: The extension activity I would use for the project would be for the students to write a short paragraph on what they are most thankful for and why to go with their art project. Once finished, I would hand the paragraphs as well as their art work in the hallway or our classroom.
